Comprehensive approach to countering violence. Kherson

The initiative "Strengthening Police Engagement with the Community of the City of Kherson to Counter Domestic Violence: A Comprehensive Approach" was implemented by the Uspishna Zhinka (Successful Woman) non-profit organization together with the Kherson Patrol Police as part of the Canada-Ukraine Police Development Project (CUPDP) and with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose was to strengthen the rapport between the police and the community of the city of Kherson in order to counter domestic violence through the creation of a public space on Suvorova Street using an integrated approach in the prevention work and in the response to such crimes.

Objectives:

  1. Develop a joint communication strategy for the Community Consultative Group (CCG) to establish and equip the community space dedicated to countering domestic violence on Suvorova street, as part of the actions to transform the street into a safe and attractive environment, a venue for uniting the community of the city.
  2. Conduct an on-site two-day training for 20 Patrol Police officers practising scenarios of response to domestic violence incidents based on the survivor needs centered approach and involving an interagency response.
  3. Prepare information materials on combating domestic violence.
  4. Develop and conduct joint information campaigns and activities of the CCG to combat domestic violence at the community space on Suvorov Street.
  5. Develop, receive an approval, and conduct a study of the law enforcement agencies and duty bearers’ response to domestic violence in the city of Kherson from 2019 to 2021 at the beginning of the project and at the end; collect data during the project implementation, monitor the implementation stages of the project.
