Safe employment for young people. Vinnytsia

The summer camp for teenagers was organized as part of the Safe Migration and Employment Awareness Raising initiative for the youth from the vocational schools in Vinnytsia region, implemented by the “Dzherelo Nadii” (Source of Hope) non-profit organization in cooperation with the police and with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) under the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

Objective of the camp:

Promote rapport between the patrol/district/juvenile police and vulnerable youth in Vinnytsia region, support the development of the vulnerable young population as role models of safe behaviours in order to prevent them from being trapped in a human trafficking path.

Outcomes:

Informal communication with police officers allowed young people to get to know more about different departments of the police, understand that the role of the police is not as much as a punitive body, but primarily a service provider designated to inform, assist, and protect. The key take-away for the youth was the understanding that the police officer is also a human being like they are, and the police officer is also a member of the community. The participants of the camp stated that they now know more about the issues related to human trafficking, ready to become champions to spread information about this among their peers, parents, and relatives, and understand better the role of the police in creating a safe environment in the community.
