Activities in school camps. Vinnytsia

The "My Friend is a Police Officer" initiative was implemented by the Patrol Police of Vinnytsia Region, the Youth Labour Exchange and the Center for Teenage Clubs at the Place of Residence with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to teach children, adolescents, and young people to assess the risks in a situation for their lives and health, as well as for lives and health of those around them, to be able to respond promptly and to act accordingly in an emergency situation. Conducting preventive lectures, training sessions and other exciting activities was expected to reduce crime in the future and increase confidence in the police.

Objectives:

  • Teach children the rules of safe behavior in the city in their everyday life
  • Prevent negative attitude among children, adolescents, and young people
  • Instill trust and establish friendly relations with the police
  • Prevent violence and bullying among children, adolescents, and young people.

Results:

  • Training of 10 project coordinators will be carried out, and the latter ones will hold lectures and training workshops for children, adolescents and youth, and parents at the community-based clubs. 30 lectures will be held at the community-based clubs, 4,200 pupils will be informed at the school summer camps, 6 major events will be held in the city centre.
  • 5,000 flyers and booklets will be drawn up and printed, 15 informational billboards containing information for the visitors of the MI “Community Centre for Teen Clubs” will be made.
  • In such a way, the team informed a great number of children, adolescents and youth, and their parents, about the threatening situations for their life and health and for life and health of those around, and how should they adequately act in particular situations prior to arrival of the law enforcers.
