Crisis room. Ivano-Frankivsk

The "Crisis Room" initiative was implemented by D.O.M. 48.24 non-profit together with the National Police and Patrol Police in Ivano-Frankivsk region with the support of the Canada-Ukraine Police Development Project (CUPDP) financed the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to create a pilot crisis room in Ivano-Frankivsk for victims of domestic violence and to inform urban and rural population about the response protocols to domestic violence with the active involvement of representatives of the Patrol Police in order to ensure the visibility of the police and increase public confidence.

Objectives:

  • Establish cooperation with stakeholders – local service providers, the Patrol Police, and the media
  • Increase trust of victims of violence in the police
  • Break stereotypes in the minds of women about the inaction of the police and encourage reporting of violence to the police
  • Ensure the safety of women survived domestic violence, reducing repeat incidents.

Outcomes:

  1. The crisis room provided shelter to 13 women and 15 children who faced domestic violence.
  2. More than 100 thousand people have been reached by the awareness campaign on combating violence.
  3. A guide with steps on how to set up a crisis room has been developed.
  4. Training was provided to women on non-violent communication and how to identify an abuser.
  5. Training was conducted for stakeholders working to combat domestic violence.
