Research to counter violence. Poltava

Community without Violence was implemented by the not-for-profit Poltava Territorial Development Agency together with the National Police forces in the city of Poltava under the support of Canada-Ukraine Police Development Project (CUPDP) with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to improve the cooperation between the police and the community of Poltava to reduce and prevent domestic violence cases.

Objectives:

  1. Identify tools and models of cooperation between the community, the police, and the local authorities to combat domestic violence and promote the culture of intolerance to domestic violence among the public;
  2. Research the problem of "why women stay".

Outcomes and Achievements:

  • Increased awareness among the residents of Poltava regarding the prevention of domestic violence (gaining skills).
  • Women residing in Poltava learned and gained skills in self-defense, premedical care, and responsible parenthood.
  • Increased legal awareness among the residents of Poltava following the legal counseling provided.
  • Increased number of people trusting law enforcement officers.
  • Improved skills among police officers in dealing with domestic violence.
  • Improved cooperation between the city government and the community reducing and preventing domestic violence cases.
