Police and students against violence. Sumy

Community without Violence. A campaign based on the cooperation between the police and local students to address gender-based violence issues. 

Community without Violence initiative was implemented by the Crisis Center for Mental Health not-for-profit organization together with the Patrol Police of the city of Sumy under the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to forge relations between the police and student youth from collages and vocational schools in the city of Sumy, as partners in addressing gender-based violence.

Objectives:

  • Take mutual responsibility for the safe space of the Sumy community, develop a joint plan for the prevention of gender-based violence.
  • Build rapport between the police and the community to improve targeted response to the needs and challenges of the community residents.
  • Build trust between student youth and the police.
  • Promote participation among the local community.
  • Improve the quality of services provided by the police in the field of prevention and counteraction to gender-based violence.
  • Maintain a positive image of the new Ukrainian police and increase the visibility of police work in the field of prevention of gender-based violence.
