Policing principles: From Sir Robert Peel to Nowadays
Sir Robert Peel is considered to be the father of the modern democratic policing model. In 1829, he founded the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) of Greater London in England and proposed a set of principles to effectively maintain law, order, and safety in the community. These 9 principles remain key to the success of the police organizations over the past two centuries in all democracies around the world. The article presents original principles and their modern interpretation.
