Safety in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk

The initiative "Let's make the communities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk safe!" was implemented by the Agency for Democratic Development of Donbas together with the Patrol Police of the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to increase the level of safety of citizens through awareness raising and training activities in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Objectives:

  • Join efforts of the police, the authorities, and the public in order to increase safety level in the communities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk
  • Identify key safety issues for residents in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk and develop ways to address them.
  • Raise awareness of schoolchildren about traffic rules and road safety in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk
  • Improve the understanding of local residents and young people about their rights and responsibilities regarding community safety.

Results:

  1. 15 representatives of police, local authorities and public joined their efforts with the aim to raise the level of safety in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in the framework of coordinating board activities.
  2. Key problems of safety in communities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk identified, common guidelines on this issue prepared by local authorities, police and public.
  3. 400 pupils raised their awareness on safety issues within communities including the issues of road safety and behavior on the road in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
  4. 2,000 local residents and young people improved their knowledge about the rights and responsibilities as members of society and road users.
  5. 200 people participated in information meetings involving police and public, identified the key safety issues and the ways to address them.
  6. The police started being more open and managed to build a constructive dialog with residents on safety issues.
  7. Joint action plan approved for public, local authorities and police on improving road safety and safety of pedestrians in the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
