Community safety. Zaporizhzhia

Police and community: joint action to protect the safety in Zaporizhzhya initiative was implemented by the NGO "Zaporizhia Pravozahysna Grupa" with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The main objective of this project is creating a safe environment in the city of Zaporizhia by means of a large-scale communication and awareness raising campaign.

Goals of the Project:

  1. Engaging city dwellers, IDPs, disabled persons, road users, representatives of ABCOAs, local self-government bodies and NGOs in briefings with the police in communities.
  2. Identifying local safety problems and develop recommendations on their resolution in Zaporizhia.
  3. Raising public awareness of crime prevention, and of strengthening public order and local safety in Zaporizhia.
  4. Introducing a new practice of holding a dialogue between the public and the police on site through quarterly media clubs involving the media, local self-government bodies and the public.

Results:

  • At least 180 city dwellers, IDPs, disabled persons, road users, representatives of ABCOAs, local self-government bodies and NGOs are engaged in briefings with the police in communities.
  • Local safety problems are identified and recommendations on their resolution in Zaporizhia are developed.
  • Awareness of 10 thousand people relating to crime prevention, and strengthening public order and local safety in Zaporizhia is improved.
  • A new practice of holding a dialogue between the public and the police on site through quarterly media clubs involving the media, local self-government bodies and the public is introduced.
