Sign language videos. Poltava

The Information Sharing Collaboration between the Patrol Police and the Community of Poltava to Increase Trust in the Patrol Police and Create a Safe Environment for Locals initiative was implemented by the non-profit organizations Poltava Hromadske Television, Sign Language Interpreters, People with Disabilities "Bridge," and Patrol Police of the Poltava region with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to increase trust in the Patrol Police and create a safe environment for the local population by informing them via Poltava media in an inclusive manner.

Objectives:

  • Strengthen engagement between the public and non-profit sector;
  • Establish effective communication between the police and the civil society by including an impactful informative inclusive component, namely: inclusive broadcasting of jointly created media products on Poltava public television and in social media;
  • Survey the population on the level of public trust in the Patrol Police.

Outcomes:

  1. 7 awareness and inclusive videos were designed and produced about the work of the Patrol Police involving Poltava police officers, on the following themes: Structural units of the National Police, Interviewing a person, Verification of an ID of a person, 5 most common causes of a car accident, Pulling over a vehicle, Patrol Police officers: Who are they?, Do not speed on the road.
  2. People with hearing impairments, who comprise more than 2 thousand people in the community, learned about effective ways to communicate with the police in different settings.
  3. A survey was conducted via social medial to assess the increase of public trust in the Patrol Police. The analysis and comparison of the survey results before and after the project implementation shows a 7% increase.
