Children affected by human trafficking. Kherson

The initiative "Protecting the Rights and Supporting Children Victims of Human Trafficking through the Engagement of the Community and Police" in the city of Kherson, implemented by the Kherson Regional Center “Uspishna Zhinka” (Successful Woman) together with Kherson Patrol Police with the support of the Community Policing Innovation Fund (CPIF) of the Police Training Assistance Project (PTAP), implemented in Ukraine by Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the initiative was to promote interaction and build a long-term partnership between the police and the community in the city of Kherson in order to protect rights and  provide support to children victims of human trafficking, as well as to prevent risks of falling into modern forms of slavery.

Outcomes:

  • As part of the information campaign, 29 events were conducted for 658 participants;
  • Five (5) children at risk of human trafficking were identified. The children were provided with the support as per the Implementation of the National Interaction Mechanism in the city of Kherson Plan; the identity documents of two children were restored as well as their right of to study;
  • 315 residents of Kherson region were assisted through the National Anti-Trafficking Hotline;
  • More than 200 thousand people learned about the safe migration and employment practices thanks to the information campaign.
